Shopify POS for workshops: draft orders as job sheets

Using Shopify draft orders to book jobs in, add parts and labour, and turn finished jobs into orders without typing anything twice.

If your shop already runs on Shopify POS, your products, prices, stock and customers are there. The missing piece is the job: something that exists before the sale, gathers parts and labour while the work happens, and becomes an order at the end. Draft orders are that piece.

Book the job in as a draft

At drop-off, a draft order holds the customer, the item and the checklist of what they asked for. Tag it as a workshop job so it counts in the right group. If you take a deposit, charge it as its own small order on the POS, and take it off the final bill when the job is done.

Add parts and labour as you go

Mechanics add products from the store, a labour line and notes against each item while they work. Because it’s the same draft, the price is always the store’s price, and stock comes off when the order is created.

Finish into an order, then get paid

  • The draft becomes an order, payment pending

  • Shopify’s invoice email goes out with a pay link, if you want it to

  • The customer pays online or at the counter

  • Paid jobs are fulfilled and leave the board by themselves

The result is one record from drop-off to payment, with your Shopify reports counting workshop revenue the same way they count everything else.
